Question by : What are some standout characteristics of nu metal and how does it differ from normal heavy metal?
I’m writing a paper on it and I’m a little fuzzy on the whole subject. Can you give me some examples of characteristics of nu metal/ways it differs from heavy metal? Maybe even a compare Song A to Song B type of thing where you give me a metal song and a nu metal song? All help is appreciated!
And don’t say “nu metal sucks” because there’s been some pretty bad heavy metal too.

Question by Tearany: Who is responsible for the lyrics in a song? The artist or the music industry?
Doing a panel discussion is speech class. I need a little bit of consumer input. If i could make make polls that would be better, but that’s not in discussion right now. Please tell me who you see as responsible for the offensives in lyrics and why.

It depends. The artist can write it, co-write it, or have a songwriter write it. Or, artists can hire ghostwriters to do the job (where they write the lyrics, but the artist doesn’t give credit to them. kind of an under-the-table sort of deal)
I live in Nashville, TN, so the country music is a good example to talk about. The country scene revolves around lyrics more than the music, which is why this industry is truly driven by the songwriters. It’s all about who’s going to cut their song next, and which publishing company can pitch a song to the big artist and make a hit. I can tell you that hardly anybody these days writes their own songs in country music.
As for the other genres, I think it’s spread out pretty evenly for who write the lyrics. It could be the actual artist/band, or a songwriter.

Question by j.lea76: How do you add music to Powerpoint 2007 but also add it to a portable flash-drive?
I have to take present Powerpoint presentations to school, but I need to add music to it. The last time I did it, I added the music to the presentation but the music didn’t play at all. I can’t just take my computer to school, so I put the Powerpoint on my flash drive. Do I have to add the music file that I added to my presentation on my flashdrive as well?
Best answer:
Answer by Swiss
When you insert the audio into the PowerPoint and the audio is just in your computer not in the PowerPoint that is why it said, “Windows cannot play…” Always put the music audio in the same folder as your PowerPoint presentation on your computer.
The source music file is only on your computer but not on others’.
So place the presentation file and the music together in the same folder, zip it and then drag it on your flash-drive
There is a picture for you that this the right way for you insert the audio file on your presentation:

Question by : How large a part do lyrics play in your appreciation of music?
If, for example, a song expresses a viewpoint that you don’t agree with, or that you feel uncomfortable hearing, would you still listen to it?
Or alternatively, do you ever listen to music you would usually dislike except that you love the lyrics?

Question by : How do I remove lyrics or where can I get instrumentals?
I’m trying to do a vocal cover of a couple songs. Now I have searched all over for instrumental versions of songs and I have tried EVERY way possible to remove lyrics from a song using Audacity, AVS Audio Editor, and even Adobe Audition. I was wondering if anybody could give me any detailed instructions on removing lyrics or point me somewhere where I can get songs without lyrics already in them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could go try this method on your computer, it could act as a kind of karaoke thingy =)
Try this: Go to Control Panel > Sound > Speakers > Enhancement > Voice Cancellation
Once you got the Voice Cancellation box thingy checked, you can play whatever song (doesn’t have to be saved from your computer, it can be from youtube or whatever) you want and then it cancels out the vocals XD. This works best on songs without effects (e.g. echo) added to the vocals, ’cause it only cancels out voice and not the effects.
Hope this helps! XD

Question by : What metal rusts or corrodes the fastest?
I’m doing an art project and one of my elements deals with metal and i would like to either rust or corrode the metal, but i only have 2 weeks. What metal would either rust or corrode the fastest in a little less then 2 weeks?

Answer by Colin
Only one metal rusts, and that is IRON. Corrode is a more general term applied to all metals. It is further complicated by the fact that PURE metals are rarely used in everyday life, but most metal objects are made of mixtures of metals called ALLOYS.
You have had very few answers as it will take a book to explain it all. Rusting or corroding are affected by many things … temperature, the metals involved, the size of the particles and what is doing the corroding.
a] temperature something like an acidic solution corrodes faster when warmer
b] metals involved a reactive metal like magnesium will corrode quicker than a relatively unreactive one like copper. Noble metals like gold don’t corrode at all!
c] particle size. An iron girder will take years to rust, but put some iron filings in a damp sink and you’ll see rust in a couple of hours
d] What is doing the corroding Acid will corrode quicker than water.
If you are doing Art, you can probably get Iron Wool. This will corrode quickly in less than 2 weeks if kept damp and is probably the most sensible suggestion I can give … you are hardly going to use a lump of say, potassium metal, in an art project.

Question by : Why do people like music according to their personality, and the way they dress?
Everyone likes music according to their personality. You can usually tell what type of music someone listens to by looking at how they dress. And how they look too. For example I listen to mostly alternative/punk rock, and Ive been told I look like it. And most people I meet with obnoxious personalities like the same type of music, and most of my friends like the same type of music I do. So why are musical likes like that?

Answer by Atmospherical World
Music is a lifestyle, and the fact that its one of the biggest industries in the world gives it away. Each genre of music evolved from people’s different styles. For example Hip Hop came from the neighbours hoods in the USA, the lyrics and style they used reflected on their life’s and once someone starts it it spreads out and becomes a style of music. Now the way people represented rap was what people call “Gangsta” and they had baggy jeans, hoods etc and that just influenced people, today celebrities influence people through the media.
Clothes brands then know what kind of clothes people are being shown there for produce them and in the end, people have that style.
It all comes down to how the music evolved, how the style is shown and the media.

Question by Chelsea D: How do you find specific heat of a metal without knowing the thermal energy?
A piece of metal weighing 500.0 g is put into a boiling water bath. After 10 minutes, the metal is immediately placed in 250.0 g of water at 40.0 °C. The maximum temperature that the system reaches is 50.0 °C. What is the specific heat of the metal?

Answer by Bob
use:
MCdeltaTwater = -MCdeltaT metal
M=500
C=?
deltaT=25 (assuming it starts at rm temp which is 25)
M=250
C=4.18
deltaT=10
now solve by 250*4.18*10/12500
